Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask before and after signing up, in one place. If your question is not here, support will answer it on WhatsApp or email, usually the same day.
Getting started
Sendozi is a Nigerian communications platform. You fund one wallet and send SMS, email, voice calls and WhatsApp messages from one dashboard or one API, with per-recipient delivery reports.
No. Individuals can sign up and send. Some features, such as certain sender IDs and WhatsApp Business verification, require registered business documents because the networks and Meta demand them, not because we do. Email verification is enough to start; branded sender IDs and business WhatsApp need supporting documents.
Create an account, verify your email and top up, and you can send within the hour. Sender ID registration and WhatsApp verification take longer because they involve third-party approvals; we tell you the status of each from your dashboard.
No. The dashboard works from any browser. The API exists for teams that want messaging inside their own product, not as a requirement.
No. The dashboard works from any browser. Upload contacts, write your message and send.
Yes. Sandbox mode lets you test every channel without spending a kobo or messaging a real person. New accounts do not receive automatic trial credit; top up when you are ready to send for real.
Billing and wallet
Bank transfer or card, from the dashboard. Corporate accounts can request invoices for transfer payments.
No. Your balance stays in your wallet until you spend it or close your account.
160 characters of plain text, or 70 for Unicode (Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and other non-Latin text). Longer messages span multiple pages and the dashboard shows the page count before you send.
Yes. If you send above 500,000 messages monthly, talk to sales for negotiated routes and rates.
No. You pay per message from your wallet balance.
No. You pay per message from your wallet balance. The balance does not expire while your account remains active.
Yes. Every top-up generates a receipt, and registered businesses can download VAT invoices from the dashboard. Prices are exclusive of VAT unless stated otherwise on the invoice.
Unused wallet balance is refundable when you close your account, subject to identity verification and the process set out in our Terms.
SMS
The most common cause is the DND list. Promotional routes cannot reach DND numbers, but transactional messages sent through corporate routes can. Sendozi separates the two so you choose the right route per message.
You can start testing immediately with a default sender. To display your business name, sender IDs must be registered with each network. We handle the submissions and tell you the status of each one from your dashboard.
Most messages are handed to the network within seconds of your request. Delivery to the handset depends on the network and the recipient's signal, and your delivery report updates as each network confirms.
Yes. Import a CSV or Excel file, map your columns once and your list is ready for campaigns and personalisation. You are responsible for having consent to message the people on it, and we give you opt-out tooling to keep the list clean.
Yes. SMS supports Unicode, so Nigerian languages send correctly. Unicode messages carry 70 characters per page instead of 160, so plan message length accordingly.
Not yet. Nigerian numbers are our focus at launch, and international routes are on the roadmap. Talk to sales if you need them sooner.
Usually one of three things: missing authentication, a poor sending reputation, or content that triggers filters. Sendozi fixes the first at setup, protects the second with managed pools and suppression lists, and flags risky content before you send.
Yes. You verify ownership, add the DNS records we generate for you and start sending as you@yourdomain.com. Most domains verify within an hour.
Every message can carry both. We generate a plain text version from your HTML automatically, and you can override it.
Hard bounces are suppressed automatically so you never pay to send to a dead address twice. You can review and export the suppression list at any time.
Not at the start. Our managed shared pools suit most senders. Once you send consistently high volume, a dedicated IP gives you full control of your reputation, and we provide a warm-up plan so the move does not hurt deliverability. Support can advise when your volume warrants the move.
Voice
Use it as a fallback. Most codes deliver fine by SMS, but for the share that fail, a voice call recovers the verification and the customer. Many teams trigger voice automatically when an SMS is unconfirmed after a set window.
Yes. Upload an MP3 or WAV file and use it in any campaign, or mix recorded audio with text to speech in the same call flow.
Calls display a standard local number. Dedicated numbers are available on request so customers learn to recognise you. Pricing depends on the number type; ask support for a quote.
Every call returns a status (answered, no answer, busy, failed) and duration, in the dashboard, by export or by webhook.
Per second of connected call time. A 20-second call costs 20 seconds at the published per-second rate. Unanswered calls are not billed.
Yes. Sendozi provisions accounts through the official WhatsApp Business Platform. Unofficial tools risk permanent number bans; official access does not.
WhatsApp reviews templates before they can be sent in bulk to prevent spam. Approval usually takes minutes to a day. You draft, submit and track templates from your Sendozi dashboard.
Yes, and replies open a 24-hour conversation window in which you can respond freely without a template. Replies arrive in your team inbox or your own system by webhook.
You need a number not currently registered on the WhatsApp consumer app. Most businesses use a dedicated line. We help you register and verify it.
The green tick (official business account) is granted by Meta to notable businesses and is separate from ordinary verification. Every Sendozi WhatsApp account is verified and fully functional without it; we can advise on applying if your brand qualifies.
Compliance and data
Sendozi operates in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Our Privacy Policy sets out what we collect and why, and we provide consent and opt-out tooling on every channel. Documentation for institutional due diligence is available on request.
You do. We process them only to deliver your messages, and you can export or delete them at any time.
SMS recipients can reply STOP to opt out, emails carry unsubscribe links, and WhatsApp recipients can use stop keywords. Opt-outs are enforced automatically across future sends.
Email hello@sendozi.com from your account email, or use the account closure option in settings. We verify the request, settle the wallet per the Terms and delete personal data on the schedule in our Privacy Policy.

Yes. The docs cover most cases, the quickstart takes minutes, and our team will look at your specific integration question if you get stuck.
Industry use cases
Yes. Add team members with their own logins and keep one wallet and one combined report for oversight. Owner and member roles are available at launch.
Yes. SMS supports Unicode, so Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and other languages send correctly. Note that Unicode messages carry fewer characters per page.
Transactional messages route through corporate paths that reach DND numbers. You mark the message type in the API call and we route accordingly.
Yes. Every message has a status history you can pull by API, export from the dashboard or receive by webhook as events happen.
Yes. Call the API from your order workflow, or have your developer wire our webhooks into your fulfilment system. Each status change can send its own template.
No. Approved template messages reach opted-in customers whether or not they have saved you, and your verified business name displays either way.
Yes. Group contacts however your institution is organised and message any group independently.
Every message is logged with content, recipient, timestamp and delivery status, retained for 24 months and exportable on demand.
One page of SMS to 500 recipients costs 500 times the per-page rate on our pricing page, and you can see the exact figure before you press send.
Personal sender IDs follow the same network registration rules as business ones. We will tell you what is possible for your case during setup.
